Gluten Free Paper Mache

My Daughter came home from her kindergarten class yesterday and told me they were working with Paper Mache. I didn’t think much about this statement until I began thinking about the ingredients of Paper Mache! AHHHH (Most paper mache is made out of paste which does contain gluten!)

Just as we make our own Playdough, I realized that we must come up with a quick and simple Paper Mache recipe for all of my troops to use at home and in school. Listed below are a few ideas that I found useful.

Homemade Gluten Free Paper Mache Recipe

Ingredients:
White Glue (Note: Elmer’s and Ross are both gluten free)
Water
Paper (We used old newspaper)

Directions:
Mix two parts white glue with one part warm water. Stir well and the Pasteis ready to use. Now you need paper-newspaper works well! Dip each piece of paper in the liquid mixture and apply it one piece at a time to form your shapes.

There is a premade product out there called Claycrete Instant Papier Mache - made from 100% pure paper pulp. You need to mix the dry mix with water, knead it and model it.

Our family enjoys making things from scratch, so we opted for the homemade version of this awesome and fun substance! Give it a whirl with your kids and see their eyes in amazement with all of the fun they’ll have!
